Create Jobs and Economic Growth

A stronger local economy starts with thriving businesses and skilled workers.

My goal is ambitious: transform Hamilton into Canada’s economic engine.

So, what can we do?

Hamilton has everything we need to build one of the strongest economies in Canada.

We have a world-class waterport, an international airport, advanced manufacturing, leading healthcare and research institutions, a skilled workforce, and an incredible geographic location.

But we’re not reaching our full potential.

Today, approximately 89% of Hamilton’s tax base comes from residential taxpayers, while only 11% comes from business.

We need to change that.

My Vision Includes 3 Key Steps

Step 1: Make Hamilton a Place to Invest, Build and Create Jobs

Invest & Grow Planning

As Mayor, I’ll make Hamilton a city where businesses want to invest, build and create jobs.

That starts by transforming our planning and development system from one of the worst in Ontario to one of the best.

We’ll remove unnecessary barriers, streamline approvals, and move from a process too often measured in years to one measured in weeks and months.

Step 2: Restore Economic Vitality Downtown

Build the core of Hamilton

We’ll restore economic vitality to our downtown by confronting crime, homelessness and addiction and making our core a place where people want to live, visit and invest.

Step 3: Attract Investment and Grow Our Economy

Focus on Core Municipal Services

I’ll build strong relationships with the provincial and federal governments to bring new investment and economic opportunities to Hamilton.

We’ll develop an Economic Transformation and Growth Strategy that takes advantage of everything Hamilton has to offer.

When we attract investment and create thousands of good-paying jobs, we also grow our commercial tax base and reduce the pressure on homeowners to carry more of the burden.

My goal is ambitious: transform Hamilton into Canada’s economic engine.

I’ll reverse the Stoney Creek parking lot housing decision to help ensure the downtown remains viable by protecting access to parking for local businesses, churches, the Legion and healthcare institutions.

Let’s get Hamilton building, investing and working for you.

What success will look like

  • More businesses opening, expanding, and investing in Hamilton.
  • Faster approvals and reduced red tape for entrepreneurs and employers.
  • Increased private-sector investment and job creation.
  • Stronger main streets and commercial districts.
  • More residents working in high-quality jobs closer to home.
  • Improved workforce training and employment pathways.
  • A resilient local economy capable of adapting to future opportunities and challenges.
