Confront the Housing Crisis
Build Faster,
House Smarter,
Restore Dignity.
Make homeownership more attainable and end chronic street homelessness in Hamilton over the next four years.
So, what can we do?
Hamilton is facing both a housing crisis and a homelessness crisis — and we need to address both.
My Vision Includes 3 Key Steps
Step 1: Making It Easier to Afford a Home
Build Communities effectively
As Mayor, I’ll work with the building community to ensure that a percentage of newly built homes are affordable.
I’ll also advocate with the federal government to remove the mortgage stress test and re-evaluate the current approach to down payments, so more people have a realistic opportunity to become homeowners.
Step 2: Ending Chronic Street Homelessness
Respond to public safety
Homelessness is both a humanitarian crisis and a public safety challenge.
My goal is clear: end chronic street homelessness in Hamilton over the next four years.
We’ll focus on the root causes of homelessness, including addiction, trauma and mental health issues.
We’ll expand access to mental health services, addiction treatment, supportive housing and recovery programs, creating clear pathways that move people from crisis to stability and permanently off the streets.
Step 3: Accountability for Results
Outcomes-based solutions
We’ll measure homelessness programs based on outcomes, not simply spending, and direct funding toward organizations and approaches that deliver results.
We’ll address homelessness as the demand side of the drug crisis, while aggressively tackling drug trafficking on the supply side.
Our approach is simple: compassion and accountability.
It’s time to love people off the streets — because if we love someone, we won’t leave them on the streets.
Our goal is simple:
Get shovels in the ground faster and build more homes of every type-starter homes, rental units, family housing, seniors housing, and supportive housing.
