Media Watch with Mac Christie

What makes you the right choice to lead the city?
Hamilton needs leadership that delivers results. I’ve challenged the status quo at City Hall, asked tough questions and stood up for taxpayers. As Mayor, I’ll bring fiscal discipline, accountability and practical leadership to make Hamilton safer, more affordable and more prosperous – while ensuring residents have a stronger voice at City Hall.
In brief, what are three top issues you want to address in the city? (50 words max.)
Affordability: End property tax increases exceeding inflation, eliminate waste and improve accountability at City Hall.
Public safety: Tackle violent crime, gangs, guns and illegal drugs while addressing the root causes of homelessness.
Economic growth: Attract investment, create jobs, accelerate approvals and repair our roads and infrastructure.
What is one decision of the past council you would change if you could, and why?
I would change the decision to rush ahead with the Barton-Tiffany tiny homes project without proper due diligence, financial controls and oversight. What began as a $2.8-million project ultimately cost $5.1-million more. The Auditor General found serious failures in governance and cost oversight. Taxpayers deserve accountability, competent procurement and value for every dollar.
