Public Safety – Tackle Violent Crime
A thriving city starts with residents feeling safe.
My goal is clear: make Hamilton the safest city in Ontario.
So, what can we do to tackle violent crime?
Every Hamiltonian should feel safe to go to any part of the city at any time of day or night. Public safety is the government’s first responsibility.
As Mayor, I’ll work with Hamilton Police and other levels of government on a comprehensive strategy focused on prevention, enforcement and rehabilitation.
My Vision Includes 3 Key Steps
Step 1: Prevent Crime Before It Starts
Invest in community
We’ll restore a greater role for police engagement in our schools and invest in recreation, sports, mentorship and community programs that give young people positive alternatives to gangs and crime.
Step 2: Strong Enforcement
Safety is the priority
As Mayor, I’ll sit on the Hamilton Police Service Board and take an active role in making public safety a priority.
We’ll support Hamilton Police in targeting gangs, guns and illegal drugs with proactive enforcement and visible policing in our neighbourhoods.
I’ll work with the provincial and federal governments to advocate for adequate correctional capacity so offenders who should be in custody aren’t repeatedly cycling through the justice system.
Step 3: Break the Cycle
Support & Rehabilitation
We’ll support effective rehabilitation programs that help people build the skills and opportunities they need to choose a better path.
Prevent crime. Enforce the law. Break the cycle.
As Mayor, I’ll work every day to make Hamilton a city where families feel safe, young people have opportunities to succeed, and criminals know there are consequences.
Our goal is simple:
Every resident deserves to feel safe walking their streets, proud of their neighbourhood, and connected to their community. Building a stronger Hamilton means investing in public safety, maintaining clean and welcoming public spaces, and supporting the people and organizations that make our neighbourhoods thrive. Together, we can create a city where families, businesses, and communities flourish.
